A subdomain is a website url, that is under a main, or a root domain. An example is something.domain.com, where domain.com is the main domain address, while "something" is the subdomain below it. Each subdomain can have its own website and records i.e. apart from using the domain name as a part of the whole web address, a subdomain can be completely independent and even hosted by a separate service provider. Employing a subdomain can be quite useful if you wish to have different sites that are related in some way. As an example, you may have a web-based store under the main domain plus a forum under a subdomain in order to provide means for your clients to ask questions and share views concerning your products. The main advantage of using a subdomain as opposed to a subfolder is that the sites are going to be separated, so you are able to update one of them or perform maintenance not affecting the other.

Subdomains in Shared Hosting

Each shared hosting package which we offer will permit you to create hundreds of subdomains with no more than a couple of clicks within your web hosting CP. They are going to be listed in the area where you create them and grouped under the main domain for more convenience, so that you can easily keep an eye on them all. Additionally, you can access many functions for any of the subdomains through right-click context menus - as an example, you can view or edit their DNS records, access the site files, and much more. While creating a new subdomain, you are also going to have many options that you can choose from - determine the default access folder, set unique error pages, activate FrontPage Extensions or pick if the subdomain will use a shared or a dedicated IP address. How many subdomains you will have is completely up to you as we have not restricted this feature for any one of our packages.

Subdomains in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Our Linux semi-dedicated hosting don't have a set limit for the number of subdomains you can create. Adding a new subdomain in the account takes only a few mouse clicks in the Hepsia hosting CP and throughout the process you can select the folder the subdomain is going to access if it is going to be different from the default one, create tailor-made error pages, enable FrontPage Extensions if you need them or set a dedicated IP address as opposed to the shared server one in case you have added such an upgrade to your semi-dedicated account. When the subdomain is created, you will be able to access logs and visitor statistics or you can swiftly jump to the site files for it in the File Manager area via fast access buttons. All subdomains you have in the account are going to be conveniently listed under their root domain, so you're going to be able to find and control any of them effortlessly.
